(Male Action Changing Kids)
In November, PTA units appointed nominating committees tasked with filling open positions for the 2014-15 academic year. This is an exciting time for volunteers who are looking for opportunities to get more involved within their school communities and to support parents and kids through PTA.
Who is eligible to serve on a PTA board? The answer is easy! Any PTA member dedicated to the PTA mission of advocating for kids and who is interested in making positive contributions to the PTA team. No experience is necessary to serve on PTA. Leadership development, training, and support are provided by the Ohio and National PTA and the Lakewood Council of PTAs, and by your school’s PTA leadership team. Also, your local PTA will cover your costs to attend the Ohio PTA Annual Convention & Exhibition planned for April 25th-April 27th in Columbus.
To me, PTA is at its best when we all chip in a little of our time to accomplish BIG things. By serving on a committee or taking on a position as an officer you are making a difference in the lives of the kids PTA serves. You also are helping each other. Each PTA is designed so that nobody has to do more than one job, and there is enough variety for those of us who only have a small amount of time to give or those of us who want to make a full time commitment. There are a variety of positions to choose from based on your schedule and time availability. PTA leaders understand that not everyone can attend meetings or be in the school during the day. Whatever your circumstances there is a job you can do!
Lakewood Council of PTAs Opportunities
The Lakewood Council of PTAs also appointed a nominating committee to fill the positions of the Executive Committee. The following positions make up the Council Executive Committee; President, President-Elect, First Vice President (Programs), Second Vice President (Awards, Membership Benefits, Training), Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer. The superintendent serves as an honorary member as Third Vice President.
The Executive Committee appoints the following chair positions; Ways and Means, Membership, Advocacy & Legislation, Reflections, Scholarship, and Newsletter.
If you are interested, or would like to nominate a current PTA member, to any of the Executive Committee or Chair Positions please complete a NOMINATION FORM and send to the nominating committee listed on the form.
Current Council members and those interested in serving on council are invited to attend Council Training sponsored by the Ohio PTA on Saturday, January 25th from 10am-4pm at the Ohio PTA Office in Columbus. We will be coordinating transportation. The event is free and lunch will be provided.
